This party was great. Cool people, low-key ambiance, good music...it was fun. There was another DJ right before Questlove and he was doing his thing -I'll get his info and put it up later.
Questlove's set was very different from what I heard from him about a year ago at Hiro - last year, he played so much GOOD old school R&B. What was most amazing was that I didn't recognize half of the songs at all. It was an education.
At last week's party, Questlove's set didn't lack didactics, but it was more playful, more mainstream: he played essential, newish hip hop songs and proceeded to play their just-as-good-if-not-better sample sources.
That was fun, but, music geek that I am, I'm looking forward to his set at LOVE on Saturday.
